Ascension Cathedral Ascension Cathedral, a monument to 18th century architecture. Regrettably it hasn't been preserved in its original condition. For a long period of soviet power the building was used as a business premises a beer factory, to be precize. Today the cathedral has been restored its golden cross gleams and its cupola towers proudly above the skyline.
Malaya Kokshaga River The city's green belt consists of extensive tracts of oak and pine and these, coupled with the sandy shores and picturesque, meandering streches of river attract locals and visitors alike.
The Pedestrian Bridge The unusual silhouette of the bridge has long since become one of the city's landmarks.
Mari government Here is situated the workplace of the President, the Government, and the State Assembly of the Republic of Mari El.
Grand War memorial This monument in honour of those who perished in the war was opened on November 5th, 1973 (sculptor A.A.Shirnin). The eternal flame (designed and created by N.I.Vedernikov) was ignited on May 9th, 1975. Between these are marble plaques in honour of the 19 Heroes of the Soviet Union who were our fellow townsmen.
The book shop The city's largest book shop.
The Ervy cinema The city's first wide-screen cinema, opened in 1971.
Park of recreation The longest established in the city (opened 1940) and covering some 15 hectars, this park is a favorite place of recreation and relaxation for city-dwellers.
The Printing House Here, under one roof, are to be found the editorial offices of the Republic's newspapers and magazines.
